The RackMatrix S2 UK version is a solid buy: hardware is great, installation was easy, UK plug works out-of-the-box. My only small complaint: it shipped with 4 GB memory (which is fine), but if you plan heavy IDS/IPS + logging you might want to upgrade memory early. It would be nice if a higher-RAM pre-option were offered. Otherwise, great unit.

If you’re hunting for a “RackMatrix S2 UK rack mount firewall router appliance with Intel E3845” then this is a standout. I installed it in our UK telecom room; the quad-core gets plenty of headroom under our traffic loads, the 3 GbE ports plus one SFP are perfect for our WAN/DMZ design, and the UK power lead made it plug straight in. I’m thoroughly impressed.

The product (RackMatrix S2 UK version) is very good — exactly described, the UK plug version worked fine, the hardware looks durable. But the shipping to the UK site took about 5 business days more than anticipated, which delayed our project timeline. The delay isn’t the hardware’s fault, but it did affect our rating.

I gave the RackMatrix S2 UK version five stars for now because it arrived quickly, fits neatly in our rack, ports are correct and it booted without issue. I’m still waiting to push it under full load (large WAN plus multiple VPNs) before final judgement. So far, so good though.

I’m using the RackMatrix S2 UK plug version in our branch office in Birmingham. The Intel E3845 1.91 GHz four-core board handled our firewall, NAT and dual-WAN failover with ease. The UK-specific plug and power lead saved me fuss. Overall, very satisfied.
