This RackMatrix S2 is well built and the hardware specs are solid (4 cores Intel E3845 at 1.91 GHz). My only caveat: for my use case (lots of VPN + deep packet inspection) I found 8 GB memory a little borderline, so I upgraded to 16 GB. Would’ve been perfect out of the box with 16. Otherwise excellent.

We deployed the RackMatrix S2 at the edge of our network and it’s been top-tier. The three GbE ports let us segment WAN, LAN and DMZ. The SFP port gives us fiber connectivity. Our firewall rules, IDS/IPS, VPN – all working with no glitches so far. If you’re looking for an edge appliance with strong specs, this is it.

Hardware wise, the RackMatrix S2 is reliable: no restarts, stable under load, meets spec. But I felt the shipping/tracking updates were a little vague — I had to contact support to check status. Once delivered, fantastic device.

n my small business setup the RackMatrix S2 is almost perfect: I like the solid throughput, quiet operation, and uncomplicated setup. The “almost” is because I had hoped for a rack-mount kit included, but that’s a small caveat. Otherwise, highly recommended.

I run multiple VPN tunnels and heavy traffic routing between VLANs and this RackMatrix S2 hasn’t skipped a beat. The combination of 4 cores at 1.91 GHz and the ready-to-use setup means I didn’t have the typical tweaking headache. Very pleased.
