We needed a solid firewall/router backbone for our small-medium enterprise network and the RackMatrix S2 hit the mark. The Intel E3845 gives headroom for growth, the 3 GbE + 1 SFP gives us flexibility for added links. Setup was straightforward and we’ve had no downtime. Really pleased.

Once we got it, the S2 did exactly as expected: stable routing, decent performance, port layout worked fine. The only frustration was shipping to our US territories took nearly a week more than the estimated time, which delayed our rollout. Product itself is good though

We have a tight rack situation and the S2’s form-factor was perfect. The 1U height, front-mounted ports and quiet fan made integration very easy. Performance meets expectations. The only thing I’d like is extra GbE ports (we had 4 WAN links), but I realise it’s a trade-off.

Hardware wise the S2 is very capable — throughput is great and the unit is stable. My only frustration: the box arrived with one corner dented and the foam inside had shifted. Fortunately no damage to the hardware. But packaging could be stronger for international shipments.

For our small business/homelab setup this RackMatrix S2 unit hits that sweet spot: 3 GbE + 1 SFP gives flexibility, the Intel E3845 is quiet yet powerful, and the rack kit fits nicely. Only thing: the default memory was 4 GB in our model, so we upgraded to 8 GB for future-proofing. Still good value
