I think the RackMatrix S2 is a fantastic piece of hardware — the small form-factor rack appliance for enterprise edge use is built very well, noise is minimal, ports are practical. That said, the shipping delay of nearly three weeks (outside your control) and extra customs-duties slowed things down. Once it arrived and I powered it up, it worked great — just a frustrating wait.

As a home lab enthusiast I picked the home lab network appliance with 1.91 GHz quad-core CPU to enable VLANs, firewall rules and a few virtual machines. The unit is rock-steady and exactly what I hoped for. Setup was a bit more involved than I expected — mounting, cable labelling, enabling SFP — but once done it’s flawless.

Happy with the purchase—the rackmount network appliance with Intel E3845 processor performs exactly as advertised: silent, cool, reliable. However: my box arrived a little crushed around a corner. Fortunately the unit was fine and working. Hence four stars instead of five.

The device is solid — edge network appliance with 3 GbE and 1 SFP port fits our remote branch nicely. It routes traffic, deep-dives IDS/IPS, logs events. That said, after heavy use I found 4 GB RAM a little limiting when enabling full packet capture and long history logs. I’d still buy again, though — it delivers.

Hardware is rock solid: the quad-core E3845 and the 4 GB RAM make the high-performance rackmount network appliance for SMB feel top tier. My only small complaint: shipping to the Philippines took nearly 12 days instead of the expected 5-7. But once arrived, installation was painless and performance is superb.
